Women’s Gift Guide

Hey Everyone!  The holiday’s are approaching which means…shopping!  and the stress of holiday gift shopping!  What do I get so and so?  Will she like it? Maybe I’ll just get a gift card.  Listen I have nothing against gift cards (especially if they are to Starbucks)  but I think there is something so personal about giving and opening a gift. I’m listing a few of my favorites that I hope will help you with your holiday shopping this year.

Clarisonic Mia 2

This little machine is the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion.  You will never know how much excess dirt you have on your face until you use a clarisonic.  Talk about a deep clean.  There are many different brush heads to choose from which allows you for an even  deeper clean.  I use the sensitive brush head and it still gives me a great clean.  I use mine every night and love it!  Especially after a night out when I tend to wear more make-up.  This is one of my all time go to gifts that is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Modern Friction Face Scrub

Unfortunately I am not able to get facial’s as much as I like.  I have a very strict “bed time beauty regime” as my husband calls it.  You should exfoliate your facial skin about 2-3 times per week and this non invasive scrub does the trick.  When I became pregnant with my first son I did a ton of research on what products were safe to use.  I came across Origins and never looked back.

 Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Camera

Perfect for the photo enthusiast! Ok ok, this is currently what I am hoping for from Santa this year but this camera is fantastic.  I was looking for a camera that I could bring everywhere with me but didn’t require a huge camera bag.  My best friend and sometimes photographer 😉 uses this camera and the images come out amazing.  This little guy definitely packs a powerful punch.  It’s a compact camera that gives you the quality of a bigger sized professional camera.

Stay Warm With Butternut Squash Soup

img_0878

Baby it’s getting cold outside and I have the perfect remedy!  Butternut squash soup, yummy!  We have soup and grilled cheese night (almost) every Monday or Tuesday in our house during the fall and winter months.  I like to try to eat a little lighter on a these days since we have usually indulged on the weekend and soup is the perfect meal!   I will pretty much try any food.  My husband on the other hand is one of the pickiest eaters I have ever met.  Once we began dating and I started cooking for him I knew I needed to up my game to make him explore his palette.  This also made me very good at hiding vegetables in dishes. He was actually preparing me for feeding our future children!

I love this recipe because it’s simple, fast and super healthy.  I love making soups in a slow cooker.  They just taste better in my opinion.  This recipe can be adapted for the stovetop as well.

Butternut Squash Soup:

1-15lbs Butternut Squash (I get the pre cut cubes in the produce section)

2 Tomatoes (I use on the vine)

5 Garlic Cloves

1 Pear

2 Medium Leeks

4 Cups Veggie Stock (I like Pacific Organic)

Olive Oil to coat veggies

Salt, Pepper and Garlic Powder (to taste)

Half & Half (I like Horizon Organic)

Parmesan Cheese (for garnish)

Directions:

Chop all of the vegetables sans the garlic you can just leave the cloves whole. Place in the slow cooker. Coat the veggies with olive oil add the salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste and give a toss. Pour in the veggie broth.  The broth should cover the vegetables.  I cooked on LOW for 6 hours or you can do HIGH for about 4 hours. You basically want the veggies soft. Once veggies are soft blend them together with a hand blender (I used a Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender) If you don’t have one you can blend in a regular blender then return them to the slow cooker. Add the half and half. Judge based on consistency and coloring you want. I think I used about half a pint container. Season with more spices if you like and cook for a little longer. Serve with shredded Parmesan cheese.

*If you don’t have a slow cooker you can roast the coated veggies in the oven on 450 until soft, blend in blender with the veggie stock and put the mixture in a pot on the stove. Add the spices and half & half once heated.

Pair this bowl of deliciousness with a grilled cheese, simple salad or a piece of crusty bread.  Enjoy!!

The Perfect Thanksgiving Day Breakfast

Looking for a fast, easy breakfast the whole family can enjoy?? Whelp, you got it!

Ok, so I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about making overnight oats but definitely eager to try them since I get to use my mason jars (I have a not so secret obsession with mason jars!).  My reservations….were they going to be soggy, lack flavor or just plan gross?   I’m happy to report these baby’s are delicious, healthy and packed with protein.  Plus they will keep you full until it’s time to start snacking on hors d’oeuvre’s.   Let’s be honest, most if not all of us will be indulging on Thanksgiving so why not start our day off on a healthy note?  These overnight oats are fast to assemble which is key, especially for someone who is hosting.  All you do is gather the majority of the ingredients the night before, let them soak overnight and simply add the toppings in the morning before you eat them. I recommend pairing these bad boys with a large french roast coffee or english breakfast tea oh and we can’t forget a glass of orange juice, YUM.  These overnight oats won’t disappoint!!  See below for two easy recipes ❤

Vanilla Cinnamon Overnight Oats

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 – 2/3 cup unsweetened coconut milk (depends on how you like your consistency, I prefer 2/3 cup)

1/3 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1-2 tablespoons of honey based on desired sweetness

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and add to a mason jar or any container with tight fitting lid.  Pop in the fridge and let the magic happen overnight.

In the morning pop that baby the microwave for a minute to take the chill out. Add some nuts and fresh fruit (I like walnuts and strawberries) maybe add an extra swirl of honey if that’s your thing and enjoy!

Peanut Butter Overnight Oats

1/2 cup rolled oats

2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk

1/3 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1/2 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon peanut butter

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and add to a mason jar or any container with a tight fitting lid.  Pop in the fridge and let the magic happen overnight.

In the morning pop that baby the microwave for a minute to take the chill out. Add some fresh fruit (I used blueberries) a dash of cinnamon and enjoy!

These recipes are sure to keep you full until it’s time to feast on your Thanksgiving meal!

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for stopping by!
