Getting Out of the Work Out Slump!

I was always involved in sports growing up.  So I was used to going to practices and competing.  After college I still stuck with working out to stay active and in shape.  As I get older (gulp) I know how important it is to work out for my health.  I would also like to mention how much of a nicer person I am when I work out.  Good old serotonin and endorphins doing their thang.   My problem is I get bored, very easily.  I can’t just go to a gym and run on the elliptical (do you even run or is it like more of a glide?).  More power to those who can but I have zero will power for that!  I was very into vinyasa yoga before I was pregnant and even did it throughout my pregnancies.  However, with three little ones ages 1,2 and 3 I lost the drive to go and work out.  Mainly due to sleep deprivation.  I felt like everyday I was working out!  Which isn’t exactly exaggerating!  There’s a reason why there are shirts that say “my toddler is my cardio”.   However, I knew I needed to do something.  I wasn’t feeling my best and let’s face it, after three back to back pregnancies mommy needed to do some toning and tightening.  I decided to look into work outs that would keep my interest…

That’s when I came across a pilates studio that was opening up in a local shopping center.  I thought, ok why not give it a try.  So I booked my first free demo class.  Dragging along my mother and sister of course.  I mean they go to the gym regularly so if anything they could make me look better by overshadowing my lack of endurance.   So we get to the demo and we have to wear these fun little grip socks.  I thought to myself, a work out that doesn’t involve sneakers?  I’m already liking this.  Then you see the reformer (pilates machine).   I must warn you.  The machine looks like it belongs in 50 shades of gray and I’m pretty sure its a transformer.   I’ve taken to calling my Reformus Prime.  After one class I was hooked.  I love that fact that we use our own bodies as the resistance.  I love that my body feels longer and leaner from the exercises we do.  I go twice a week and every time we are configuring this machine to do something different! I love it!

If you are looking for a new routine to try I suggest pilates! Ive noticed the results as have others.  If you are in the Northern New Jersey area they I highly recommend Club Pilates in West Caldwell.  Feeling shy? I’d be more then happy to catch a class with you!  Not in the area? Have no fear!  Club Pilates has locations nation wide!  I have linked my outfit details below incase you guys were interested!  I love these legging they are breathable and moveable.  Plus they are really cute, Incase you have to run errands afterwards you work out or maybe you just want to wear cute work out leggings any day of the week.   Whether it’s for athleisure or for actually working out, I’ve got you covered!

Ashli’s Tips:

  1. Don’t be afraid to try a new work out.
  2. Set goals, small at first and then break them and set new ones!
  3. Buy some new work out gear to help motivate you.
  4. Get an accountability partner! It makes going so much easier! You guys can push each other!
  5. If you fall off you routine just get back into it!
  6. Slow and steady wins the race.  You are doing this for you 🙂

Outfit Details:

My Leggings, the black are sold out but this color is super cute!  I may have to pick them up! // My Tank // My Hoodie, not the exact but very similar. // My Sneakers, I got mine last year but these are very similar // My Water Bottle

Can we talk winter boots for a second?

Ok, it’s freezing in Jersey and the kids are napping so I thought why not throw out a quick post on winter boots! Incase any of you out there haven’t picked up a pair yet.  My my how far we have come!  I for one do not particularly enjoy the snow.  As child all my siblings would be out playing in the snow for hours and I would be inside enjoying the warmth with a cup of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows in hand and a movie marathon going on.  Alas, this is still how I feel but circumstances now obligate me to leave the house in the snow.  So I had to pick myself up a few pairs of cute and functional snow boots.  I even found a pair that have a wedged heal to them.  You know to help us short gals out ; )  There are SO many styles this season but below you will find some of my favorites.  The prices range from $37.00-$239.95.

Click the images below for the direct link!

I have similar boots to these and they sold out so fast! But I found these and also love them!

I just love how these boots look! I bet you will look like your are gliding on the snow in these!

I mean these boots are fantastic and the price point makes them even better!

The wedge on these makes them!

I will always be a fan of a classic SOREL winter boot.  #basic #whatever

I just really loved the color of these boots and the fur popping through.

Give me all the Slides!

Slides are such an amazing versatile shoe.  I love slide sandals in the summer, especially the velvet and block heel ones which I will wear well into late summer and fall.  They are easy to style and easy to get on your feet ; ) I love when fashion meets comfort and that’s exactly what slides do.  I especially adore embellished slides because they allow me to dress up an outfit without having to throw on high heels.  Which let’s face it, as a mom of 3 very young kids is a difficult task.  I’ll save the heels for date nights and stick with stylish slides!  You can pair them with jeans, dresses, shorts, maxi’s, joggers and pretty much anything! Below I have linked some of my personal favorites!

All Them Bells

I am absolutely love love loving this bell sleeve trend!  The bigger the bell the better! This style is perfect for all seasons.  In the colder months you can pair a cute bell sleeve sweater with a pair of skinny jeans and heals and you are ready to go! Now we are transitioning into spring here in North Jersey and there are some great bell sleeve options.  This one I am wearing can definitely go all the way through the summer.  The material is perfect.  I paired them with ripped jeans and some mules.  I can’t wait until the summer to wear them with shorts and cute flat strappy sandals.  I just love how romantic these tops look ❤  Perfect for date night, girls night or Sunday brunch.  If you are looking for an effortless trendy spring look, here you have it.  I’ve linked my outfit details below.

Mad About Mules!

After about a 2 month hiatus, i’m back!  Man, three kids under three sure is hectic! But that’s a blog post for a different day! 🙂

I’m back and talking about one of my favorite trends!  Mules or slides! Whatever you want to call them, I love em!   Stylish, comfortable and easy to to put on? Yes please!  I love everything about mules!  They are the perfect stylish shoe for (almost) every occasion.   Being a busy mom of three under three makes it tough to be comfortable and stylish at the same time.  These shoes really make that happen!  I have to admit that I didn’t jump on the mule bandwagon right away.  However, once I put my first pair on I fell in love!  They are such fun and easy shoes to wear.    I absolutely love this rose embroidered pair.  So much that I patiently waited months for them while they were on backorder!  They actually came when I was having one of those crazy hectic days with the kids!  Talk about brightening up my day 🙂  I am loving the metallic mules as well.  This versatile shoe can be paired with jeans, leggings, dresses, skirts, shorts and so on!  The list is endless!   So whether you are a busy mom, career woman or student these shoes are a must, especially heading into spring!  So do yourself a favor and jump on the mule bandwagon! I am now the leader 🙂   I’ve linked some of my favorite pairs below as well as the ones that I am wearing!

Joggers, How I Love Thee…

Joggers. My current obsession.  I have always had a thing for joggers but this year I’m taking it to a new level.  Maybe it’s the pregnancy or maybe it’s the great selection but either way mama’s a happy camper!   You can pair joggers with so many things.  They are the perfect on the go outfit to run errands with and personally Sunday’s and joggers go hand in hand in my book.  Comfort is everything these days and joggers make comfort fashionable.   I love pairing them with cute sneakers like Adidas superstars or UGG booties on a really cold day.  The always versatile piece pairs well with a sweater, sweatshirt and any jacket (leather moto is my fav) or vest.  Not to mention a long cardigan.  The options are endless.  So grab a pair of joggers, get some brunch and say hello to fashionable comfort.  Below I have linked some of my favorites ❤

Packing Your Hospital Bag 101

The Hospital Bag Essentials Check List:

Having a baby can be very overwhelming, especially if you are a first time mom.  Not only do you have to worry about packing for yourself but also for your new baby and sometimes your husband!   I have compiled a hospital check list that will help new moms prepare their hospital bag without packing too much (guilty!) or too little.  I have linked some of my favorite pieces to help as well.   I hope this list helps all of the expectant mother’s out there.  Because you never know what you may need 🙂

For Mama:

The Over Sized Travel Bag

This is the bag that I use.  It fits everything and the vegan leather feels great.  Plus it’s super chic.

Three Pairs of Comfy Warm Socks

I will labor with socks on, I hate having cold feet.  I’ll also sleep with socks on especially in the hospital..

Delivery Gown

I hate hospital gowns so this is a pretty alternative.   I used this for both my deliveries and I’ll be using it again very soon!

Two Pairs of Comfortable Pajamas

I personally can’t sleep well at night if I am not wearing my own pajama’s so I always bring 2 pairs with me.   These are super comfy and priced great.

Three Tank Tops

These are hands down my favorite layering tank.  It’s longer and I love it.  I have so many because they are at a great price point.

Two Long Sleeve Shirts

The perfect long sleeve lounge shirt.   Loose and long fitting.

A Robe

To slip on during labor or at night. I love this robe.  It’s the perfect material.

Three Pairs of Sweat Pants or Joggers

I prefer joggers since they are clenched at the bottoms.  I am one of those people who like to get dressed during the day even if it’s in sweats.  You will be sore no matter if you have a natural or c-section birth so there is no need to be tripping up on your pants.  Joggers are just easier to get around in.   These are one of my favorite pairs.  I will be wearing a pair home from the hospital as well.

Over Sized Cardigan

Good to throw on during the day.  Or for your going home outfit.

I prefer slipper socks since they won’t slip off.

Flip Flops

You will want these for the shower.

Shoes to Leave the Hospital

I’ve had a baby in the summer and wore flip flops home from the hospital, I’ve had a baby in the fall and wore UGG booties home and I’m about to have a baby in the winter which means I’ll wear some sort of UGG boot home.  Either way, chose footwear that slip on and off easily since you may be a little sore to bend and tie sneakers.

They are provided in the hospital but beware they are gigantic!  I prefer these.

Don’t knock em’ until you try em’.  The hospital gives you this lovely gauze underwear.  Which is awful in my opinion…It’s a messy business birthing a baby and there’s no way around it, depends plus a pad just make it easier…

Nipple Balm

If you are nursing this is a must have, your nips will be on fire for the first few days and this stuff is a life savor.

Nursing Bra

This one is personal favorite of mine.

A Comfy Blanket

This may sound silly now but hospital linens and blankets leave much to be desired.  I always back blanket for me and my husband who never leaves my side 🙂

Travel Sized Toiletries

No need to pack the big guys. Below you will find a list of travel size toiletries and other miscellaneous items I pack.

  • Lip balm because you wont believe how dry your lips will get during labour.
  • Body wash
  • Shampoo + Conditioner
  • Toothbrush, paste and floss
  • Hairbrush and hair elastics
  • Travel Mirror
  • Contact case
  • Face Cream
  • Eye Cream
  • Body Lotion
  • Hand Cream
  • Glasses and Contacts (if you wear them)

  • Cell Phone
  • Charger
  • Camera
  • Music Playlist or Pandora App Downloaded

  • Insurance Card
  • Divers License
  • Small Thank you gifts for the nurses- I usually buy 3 medium boxes of Godiva Chocolates.  I’ll give one to the Labour and Delivery nurses, then to my nurses in my patient room (the night shift and the morning.)  I will also send my Doctor’s a little edible arrangement to their office.
  • Cash
  • Cord Blood Banking Kit if you are doing it.

For Baby

The hospital will provide your baby with all of the essentials.  A cute little hat, swaddle blankets, a long sleeve undershirt, plus diapers, pacifier and formula.   Below I have listed what I bring for my new bundle.

  • Newborn Hats- Because they are so much cuter then the hospital ones.
  • Naturesutton BPA Free Pacifier – I prefer this pacifier over the ones the hospital gives.
  • Two Swaddle Blankets- When taking pictures I prefer my own plus like the newborn hats they are much cuter.
  • Going Home Outfit-  This depends on when your baby is born.  Since this baby is going to be a winter baby in New Jersey I will be bringing a long sleeve onsie, warm footie pajama’s, warm one piece to go over with a hood and footies (think kid from the Christmas Story) and of course a warm hat.  Also a blanket to cover him with.
  • Formula-  If you are going this route the hospital usually carries one or two brands but if you want a specific brand or organic brand I would bring a few bottle just incase.

For Dad

Make sure dad packs for himself too!  My husband will usually pack a change of clothes and deodorant since we live relatively close to the hospital so he will sneak out when family comes to see the baby for a quick shower and change.  But for those who can’t leave below is a small list of items that dad will need.

  • 2-3 Pairs of pants, sweats, or shorts depending on the area you live in.
  • 2-3 Shirts
  • 1-2 Sweat shirts or Zip Ups.
  • 2-3 Pairs of underwear
  • 2-3 Pairs of socks
  • Sneakers
  • Oh and make sure he brings his balls, he’s going to need them  😉

There you have it.  I hope this list helps all the expectant mommy’s out there stress a little less about packing their hospital bag.  Best of luck to all of you and many blessings on your new babies!

If you have any questions just comment below and I’ll be happy to answer!

Probably my all time favorite UGG style.  They are so easy to slip on and off.  They keep your feet warm and are SO cute on!

I’m very into big pom pom hats these days and this Aqua one is perfect.  Warm and stylish and not to mention it’s 25% off.  Score!

Because you can’t have enough pairs of comfy socks…

I love a good robe, the problem is I couldn’t find one that wasn’t too heavy or too light.  Until now!  This robe is the perfect material.  Layer it over pj’s or wear it out of the shower while relaxing in bed.  Super cozy!

The perfect neutral throw at the perfect price.

Ah joggers, one of my wardrobe staples.  Lounge in the house or pair with sneakers.  I love joggers and I’m not afraid to admit it.

This tunic is so soft and comfortable.  I wear it off one shoulder.  Dress it up or down.  Either way you will be comfortable.

When I think of being warm and cozy I think hot cocoa and Godiva is my absolute favorite 🙂

And if hot cocoa isn’t your thing I have linked my favorite cabernet 🙂

The Perfect PJ’s for The Holidays!

So yesterday was a snow day here in Jersey.  My husband plows so I am usually home alone with the kids on snow days.   Which means that I have to think of activities to occupy my 1 and 2 year old’s.  The day was filled with sugar cookie baking and gingerbread house making.  Probably not the best idea now that I think about it, what a mess! But Maximus had fun 🙂  We also watched some holiday movies and drank hot chocolate (mommy’s current favorite)  I also finished decorating the tree.  We had a little Christmas tree drama over here.  We usually get a real tree but decided to get an artificial flocked tree this year because they are so pretty and we figured we can put it up earlier every year.  Well the original tree we ordered was beautiful however we were only sent the bottom half of the tree!  After going back and forth with the company (who will not be named!) it turned out they had no idea where the top part of our tree was and the tree was out of stock 😦 I was so sad because here we were 11 days before Christmas without a tree!  Which made me feel like a horrible mom! Damn pregnancy hormones!  Well i’m super thankful for Target because I ordered this tree on Wednesday evening and it arrived Friday afternoon! Plus it’s not too shabby looking! I just wish it were a foot taller!  Anyway, I have linked this beautiful tree as well!  The day was a pretty great all around with only one or two minor tantrums! That’s a win to me!   One of my favorite things about snow days is staying in pajama’s ALL DAY and at almost 9 months pregnant well that’s just simply heavenly.   I have linked some of my favorite holiday pajama’s for the whole family that will be perfect to wake up in on Christmas morning! I have also linked a recipe for red wine hot cocoa!  I have been told it’s amazing and I can’t wait to try it once this baby is born! Stay cozy and warm ❤

Living in Leggings

“If wearing leggings as pants is wrong,  I don’t want to be right.”

I have been living in leggings these past few months as my body has been going through the glorious changes of pregnancy.  However, I must admit that I have always been a leggings girl.  I’m on the shorter side and have shorter legs so it’s always such a pain to find a great pair of jeans which I won’t need to have altered.  Oh and not to mention that i’ve been pregnant back to back to back these past 3 years…so leggings have been my best friend along with coffee 🙂  I love leggings this time of year.   They keep you warm and with all the fun prints they are very stylish.  I like to pair leggings with a long off the shoulder sweater and some fun sneakers.  These moto leggings that I’m wearing have been a favorite of mine for the past few years!  I have worn them before during and after my pregnancies.  The are comfortable, stylish and under $40.00!  Hence why I own them in all 3 colors 🙂   I have linked my outfit details as well as some of my current favorite leggings below.
